As an active and innovative Community Council we are fully engaged in supporting the economic, social and cultural health and wellbeing of our community.
The Local Government Act 1972 permits each Community or Town Council to spend on activities for which it has no other specific powers if the Council considers that the expenditure is in the interests of, and will bring direct benefit to, the area or any part of it, or all or some of its inhabitants, providing that the benefit is commensurate with the expenditure.
Community and Town Councils are also permitted under section 137(3) to incur expenditure for certain charitable and other purposes. The maximum expenditure that can be incurred under both section 137(1) and (3) for the financial year 2021-22 is £8.41 per elector.
This means we have a pot of funds that you can access if you are involved in a local project, charitable cause or initiative that directly benefits residents of Glyntraian. You can ask the Council to consider making a financial contribution to support your efforts. This does not extend to activities like donations for a marathon run, or similar individual fundraisers, but we can and do support initiatives that have a wider impact on the quality of life in our part of the Ceiriog Valley.
Previous group, clubs and projects we have supported under s137 include equipment for the Carun Pentrefi/Love Our Villages tidy team, the Glyn Valley Tramway Trust waiting room upgrade at Pontfadog, the Oliver Jones Memorial Hall, the Ceiriog Bowls Club and 1st Ceiriog Brownies.
Awards are considered monthly. You will need to complete a form and submit it to the Clerk for consideration by the Council at least 14 days in advance of our full Council meeting (always the 1st of each month). You can download the form here or request one from the Clerk who will be pleased to offer any guidance needed.
